Congress works towards voting on KVP Bill

Tue, Jul 19, 2016, 11:44 AM
The Congress hopes to make much out of the Private Member's Bill introduced by party MP, KVP Ramachandra Rao, demanding constitutionally promised Special Category Status to Andhra Pradesh, among other issues. By virtue of lack of quorum to reject the Bill in the Rajya Sabha, it got spilled over to the current session.

Now the party leadership had decided that it could cause much embarrassment to the ruling BJP and top Congress leaders were showing keen interest in the Bill. The party in-charge of AP, Digvijay Singh, on Tuesday held discussions with KVP and PCC chief Raghuveera Reddy in this regard.

They discussed the way to corner the BJP-led Centre on the one hand, and to seek the support of TDP and BJP MPs from the State for the bill on the other. While the BJP tried hard to discourage the Bill, it was helpless because it was introduced in the post-lunch session on the last day when members would be rushing back to their constituencies.

Now that the Bill is live, it has potential to do much more than the State leaders could press for the SCS so far. Regardless of whether the Congress is sincere or not about the SCS for Andhra Pradesh, it is second to none in political chicanery to embarrass itself the BJP government.

The Congress is working towards a voting on the KVP Bill.
