Farmers, women celebrate as Pattiseema waters reach Ibrahimpatnam

Sat, Jul 16, 2016, 12:52 PM
The Godavari waters from the Pattiseema project on Saturday morning reached up to Ibrahimpatnam in Krishna district, raising hopes of the farmers and the people in general in the Krishna delta. The State government is trying to utilise the Godavari waters that would have otherwise gone waste into the sea.

The farmers and women celebrated the event by offering prayers. Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu and Irrigation Minister Devineni Uma were to have formally marked the occasion on Friday evening, but owing to the delay in the waters reaching Ibrahimpatnam the programme seems to have been cancelled.

The Godavari waters traversed the distance of 182 km over 2 days.

Pattiseema is only part of the Polavaram project. The important part of the Polavaram project of taking waters to East Godavari and Visakhapatnam remains.
