Turn Greater Hyderabad Green: Mayor

Hyderabad, July 10: GHMC Mayor B. Rammohan today exhorted the people to become a united force to plant saplings as part of their social responsibility. “The people of the twin cities should take responsibility of green revolution and make the Haritha Haram program in Hyderabad on July 11 a grand success, he said.

Addressing the media along with Deputy Mayor Baba Fasiyuddin, Commissioner Dr B Janardhan Reddy here on Sunday, Rammohan said the green drive is getting tremendous response from students to military officials like brigadiers. Similarly the people should participate with enthusiasm in the flagship program of the green drive to turn the city a green corridor. “Though the target is to plant 25 lakh saplings on Monday, we expect to surpass it and plant about 35 lakh saplings”, he exuded confidence.

They Mayor and his deputy also said the officials have made all arrangements to ensure that 80 per cent of the plants reach the destination points by Sunday evening and the rest by Monday morning. Schools, colleges, offices of government and private should attend the program of the green drive, Rammohan maintained. As per the directive of Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao, the entire official machinery and leaders of all levels are participating in the green expansion program, he said.

“Our responsibility will not end by just planting the saplings as we are ought to protect them with meshes and covers,” the Mayor remarked. He also said the plantation drive is being conducted to ensure that main roads, empty places and other locations get green cover.
