CM prevents bid to root out Congress in Amaravati

Sat, Jul 09, 2016, 11:33 AM
The Andhra Pradesh Cabinet meeting on Friday discussed land allocations for the public and private institutions in the new capital. When the question of land allocations for different political parties came up, the ministers felt that there was no need to allocate land for the Congress, as it had no representation in the State Assembly.

The ministers argued that by bringing in a simple rule that if there was no representation in the Assembly, there would be no allocation of land for that party. So the Congress Party could be denied land in Amaravati.

However, Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu intervened to say that rather than deny the Congress land in the capital, it would be better to part with some land for the party rather than nothing.

So the Congress, the erstwhile Grand Old Party in the combined Andhra Pradesh, gets a footing space in Amaravati.
