UK admits Iraq's WMD was a hoax to go to war

Wed, Jul 06, 2016, 05:18 PM
The UK's decision to invade Iraq in 2003 was not used as a "last resort", an inquiry into the war said on Wednesday.

The UK did not exhaust all peaceful options before joining the invasion of Iraq, John Chilcot, the chairman of the official inquiry into the war, said on its release.

He also said judgements about Iraq's weapons of mass destruction "were presented with a certainty that was not justified" and post-war planning was "wholly inadequate".

His 12-volume report on the Iraq War comes more than seven years after the inquiry began.

The British sided with the US before going headlong into the war, which critics said was `sexed up', meaning Iraq holding WMD was a ploy by which the war was justified but not based on facts, as eventually no WMD were found in Iraq.
