Ramdev's Patanjali Ayurved is doing negative advertising, says Ad Council

Tue, Jul 05, 2016, 11:11 AM
Ramdev Baba's Patanjali Ayurved is doing negative advertising, trying to show its rival products in poor light, the Advertising Standards Council of India has stated. The council has listed a number of
Patanjali Ayurved products and the negative advertising being made in respect of them.

The Ad for Kachi Ghani Mustard Oil says the rivals are selling oil adulterated with a neuro-toxin that produces hexane. This was not substantiated.

As for fruit juices, Patanjali Ayurved claimed that rival brands contained expensive juices with less pulp content. By implication, it denigrates the entire class of juices of rivals, the council said.

In respect of the Baba cattlefeed product, Patanjali Dugdhamrut, it said the rivals mix 3% to 4% urea making them inedible.

The council also held baba's toothpaste, Patanjali Dant Kanti,as giving misleading ads. It does not substantiate claims of being effective against pyorrhoea, swelling and bleeding of gums, yellowing of teeth, sensitivity and bad breath or provide a natural shield against germs.

The Patanjali Ayurved said it was looking into legal options.
