PM starts reviewing his ministers' performance

Thu, Jun 30, 2016, 12:13 PM
Prime Minister Narendra Modi will start reviewing the performance of his ministers from Thursday afternoon in a bid to recast his ministry before he leaves for African visit on July 6.

The move to recast the ministry follows Modi meeting with BJP president Amit Shah for over 5 hours on Wednesday when they discussed the ministers' performance. They would like to show that the NDA alliance is fighting fit before the important UP assembly elections next year.

The Prime Minister is said to have told his ministers to make presentations on their performance in the last 2 years. Those who have nothing much to show are likely to be dropped.

Ministers of State Piyush Goyal and Dharmendra Pradhan are expected to get full Cabinet rank.

There are two vacancies which need to be filled. Sarbananda Sonowal moved to Assam as Chief Minister and Raosaheb Danve Patil was appointed as Maharashtra BJP chief.

Ministers are expected to be added for Uttar Pradesh, Punjab and Uttarakhand, which are going to witness assembly elections next year.

Already a dozen Cabinet ministers are there from UP which has returned cent per cent for the party in the last general elections. Now some junior ministers may be added from that State.
