Krishna river Board Meets in Delhi

Tue, Jun 21, 2016, 11:19 AM
The Krishna Water Management Board is meeting New Delhi on Tuesday to take up the issue of new irrigation projects taken up by the Telangana government. Both the Telugu States officials are attending the meeting. Resolving the issues is the aim of the board. The meeting is taking place under the auspices of the Union Irrigation Ministry.

Telangana's charge is that the board is siding with Andhra Pradesh. On the other hand, AP has complained against the construction of new projects on the river, which would result in the Krishna delta in Andhra going dry.

Already, even without the projects underway, Nagarjunasagar is running dry.

The term of the Krishna Water Disputes Tribunal-II has been extended for 2 years w.e.f. 1st August 2014 vide Gazette Notification dated 15th May, 2014, for making project-wise specific allocation, if such allocation has not been made by a Tribunal and determine an operational protocol for project-wise release of water in the event of deficit flows in terms of Section 89 of the Andhra Pradesh Reorganization Act, 2014 (No. 6 of 2014).
