Ponguleti tells KCR not to privatise Bayyaram, to give the mines for Central sector factory

Mon, Jun 20, 2016, 07:04 PM
Congress MLC Ponguleti Sudhakar Reddy has urged Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao to take measures for establishing an iron ore factory at Bayyaram in Khammam district in the public sector. This is a provision in the AP Re-organization Act 2013. At the same time, he wanted protection for the Rights of Tribals.

Sudhakar Reddy addressed a letter to the Chief Minister on Monday in this regard. He said in his letter that he would like to bring to the notice of the Chief Minister about that huge iron ore availability in the Bayyaram area of Khammam District.

He said during the period of Dr. Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy as Chief Minister, in the combined State, these iron ore mines had been alienated to the Rakshana Steels. People from all sectors, especially from the tribals of the area, had agitated against the decision. Even the Congress leaders have agitated and the lease / alienation of the mines to the Rakshana Steels had been cancelled by the then Chief Minister, N. Kiran Kumar Reddy.

Sudhakar Reddy he had come to know that the TRS Government had taken a decision to lease out the Bayyaram mines to a private company and the same would be finalized within a short period. At this juncture, he liked to point out that the tribals of the area were agitated. The government may thus violate the Tribal Act. The tribals are demanding that the said lease be given to the tribal societies only.

He came to understand that the government was contemplating to lease out the Bayyaram mines to a private company in the name of low quality, which was not true.

There are reports in the section of media that the government is trying to lease out mines to Reliance, Jindal, etc., private companies, which is not welcome. Only the Central Government has to take measures for establishing the iron ore factory, he added.
