Hyderabad, June 11: Kapu row in Andhra Pradesh took a new turn as the slugfest between the Opposition, and the government continues unabated. Both the Congress and the ruling Telugu Desam indulged in a virtual verbal duel on the arrest of Mudragada Padmanabham.

Andhra Pradesh Government, which invited wrath for not arresting those involved in Tuni Rail incident and leaving scot-free, the Kapu leader Mudragada Padmanabham today targeted Chiranjeevi for his comments is trying to find ways to come out clean on the murkier turned Kapur row.

On Saturday, the Congress leader and former Union Minister K Chiranjeevi fired a salvo against the TD Government for the arrest of the Kapu leader. Andhra Pradesh Ministers Narayana and K Ravindra opposed the comments of Chiranjeevi and rebutted saying that whether the latter did anything for the cause of the Kapus when he was the Central minister in Manmohan Singh Government at the Centre. CPI leader Narayana flayed Chiranjeevi for not bothering about Kapus when he was the Union Minister. “Is it wrong to arrest those who caused Tuni rail incident”, he thundered.

In separate media conferences, they flayed Chiranjeevi for his comments that the TD Government was playing with the Kapus’ sentiments. Should the government keep quiet when Padmanabham warns of committing suicide for the Kapu cause?, they asked. Even TD’s AP president K Kala Venkat Rao flayed Chiranjeevi and YSRCP Chief YS Jaganmohan Reddy for raking up the issue. Jagan in despair wants to create caste problems for political gains, he said. The TD gave recognition to the Kapus in the State, he claimed, adding that Jagan should stop politicizing the issue.

The State government will order a CBI inquiry into Tuni incident if the Kapu leader desires, he said. A step ahead, TD legislator B Uma alleged that Jagan and Padmanabham are like joint thieves are creating caste politics and coming in the way of development. The government asked the DGP to act on the police, who manhandled the family members of Mudragada during the arrest of Padmanabham.
