Carry on with Leander, AITA tells Bopanna

Sat, Jun 11, 2016, 02:35 PM
Young tennis player Rohan Bopanna, who wanted to part from pairing with ace Leander Paes, was told on Saturday he had no choice in the matter of doubles team by the All-India Tennis Association. He was told to stay put with Leander as the doubles partner.

Bopanna queered the pitch at the last minute by trying to ditch Leander and choosing rising tennis star Saket Myneni of Vizag. But the AITA did not want to disappoint senior Leander. If the AITA had agreed to Bopanna demand, it would have clearly meant no-go for Leander to Rio.

Bopanna like a bolt from the blue hit the IATA on Friday that he would not be able to partner Leander in the doubles team.

Taking Leander's seniority and medal prospect into account, the AITA put its foot down and told Bopanna to carry on with his partner.
