Kerala Sports Minister brands Anju George as UDF supporter

Thu, Jun 09, 2016, 03:13 PM
Former world level athlete Anju Bobby George thought that a leap into the new Kerala administration under the Left Democratic Front would be normal. She did realise that her leap was into the dark until she met the new Sports Minister, E.P. Jayaraman.

Despite it being a courtesy call by the Kerala Sports Council members, of which Anju was the president, Jayaraman branded them as supporters of the opposition party (previous administration) and allegedly threatened them with dire consequences under the LDF.

Taking note of Anju flying to Bangalore, the Minister found fault with her for the air trip despite protests by her that air trips were sanctioned for her by a GO.

Not only that, Jayaraman had cancelled all the recent transfers done by her council. When Anju protested, the minister again threatened her, she alleged.

Anju met the new Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan on the issue and complained to him against the minister as harassment. She made the Chief Minister say suitable action would be taken against the minister.

Anju won the bronze in the World Cup Games in Paris in 2005.
