Wed, Jun 08, 2016, 12:19 PM
To ease the administration and for better governance, the top revenue bureaucrats in Telangana have decided that the smallest administrative unit is beautiful and proposed 30 districts for the State, going five up on the TRS government's plan.

At a meeting chaired by the Principal Land Commissioner Raymond Peter, the District Collectors discussed the creation of new districts along with maps of the porposed districts, people's demands, amenities and so on.

The discussions that continued for over 8 hours at the Marri Chenna Reddy Human Resources Institute on Tuesday came out with proposals for the creation of 30 districts in Telangana.

Those who attended the meeting included Principal Secretary Land Revenue B.R. Meena, Principal Secretary in CMO Narsing Rao and Additional Secretary Smita Sabarwal.

The District Collectors prepared the blueprints for the 30 new districts. While doing so, the bureaucrats were one up on the government that suggested 24 to 25 districts for Telangana. Therefore, the officials would be reducing the number of new districts to 24 or 25 and submit their final report to chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao on Wednesday.

Prior to the meeting with the Chief Minister, the officials would have a meeting with Chief secretary Rajiv Sharma before finalising their new districts report. They would like to ensure that from each of the existing 10 districts at least one new district should emerge.

While the officials were engaged in the matter, the Chief Minister on his own looked into the Google maps at his home. He wanted to ascertain how the new districts would be in terms of Google Maps.
