Ernakulam girls graduating in lungis

Tue, Jun 07, 2016, 11:53 AM
Kerala, the fully educated State in the country, has entered the unisex era as a first in India.

It was a protest by college girls in Ernakulam following the authorities banning jeans pants for girls. They wore colourful lungis like men in Kerala and made their appearance. The snapshot taken by the college girls went viral on the social media with the girls wearing jackets and lungis, giving more colour to their dress.

As the picture did the rounds, celebrity hairstylist Sapna Bhavnani and TV actress Archana Vijaya posted their comments, in which they tried to project lungi-wearing as a college girls protest.

Anyway, the college girls display has become controversial. There is a section that believes that it is not a protest against jeans wearing as such. They say it was a picture taken on Malayali New Year's Day Onam last year when the girls appeared in colourful dresses, including lungis.

At the moment, the lungi-wearing by girls and drawing it above the knees like Kerala men is just a show-off by kids. If they let the lungi down below the knees, it becomes a sari.

So what St Theresa College pupils in Ernakulam have tried to show is girls graduating in lungis before wearing full saris.
