Telangana lawyers boycott courts in Hyderabad

Mon, Jun 06, 2016, 01:23 PM
The simmering demand of a split of the Andhra Pradesh High Court was launched as a boycott of all the courts in Hyderabad on Monday.

The Telangana lawyers who are spearheading the demand gave a call, `Andhra judges go back.' The boycott is now confined to smaller courts. After a week, it would be extended to the High Court also.

They said there were eight vacancies of judges in the High Court. These were sought to be filled by judges from Andhra Pradesh. There were in all vacancies of 140 judges in the Telangana region.

The fear is the appointment of lawyers of Andhra origin as judges in the Telangana district courts.

The lawyers said since the combined AP was already divided into two States, there was a need for the Andhras to have their own High Court. There was also a need to fill the vacancies in the Hyderabad High Court with judges from Telangana only.

If the Judges were appointed and the split of the High Court eventually took place, there would still be a majority of Andhra Judges in the Hyderabad High Court, they added.

A joint meeting at the Hyderabad City Civil Court said on Sunday that a `chalo Hyderabad' programme would be launched on June 13 by Telangana lawyers.

These decisions were taken at a joint meeting of the Bar Association of the High Court, State Advocates JAC, Telangana Judges Association, Telangana State Judicial Employees Association and Telangana Law Officers Association.
