Telangana doing one up on Amaravati at Sagar

Thu, May 19, 2016, 06:16 PM
Even as Andhra Pradesh is struggling to build its capital Amaravati, named after Indra's city, the Telangana government is fast coming with its own Amaravati, across the Krishna, with the stupa, meditating Buddha and a landscape that will take shine off the AP capital.

The landscape will be spread over 279 acres, and water will be perennially available because it will be at Nagarjunasagar.

While Amaravati was built by the Satavahanas, the Buddhavan project of the Telangana government has become a prestigious one for the State with the government spending over Rs 36 crore already despite drought.

The landscape will have vegetation all over apart from a museum, which already existed, with Buddhist sculpture brought from far and near. Viharas and prayer halls will be built, and the whole landscape will be of international standards. Ajanta frescoes will be painted here. Hopefully they will not forget the fresco of an Andhra Princess in Ajanta and reproduce it at the Buddhavan project.
