Karuna defeated by alliance plan as Vaigo hijacks it

Thu, May 19, 2016, 05:27 PM
Former Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi was expected to win by all the exit polls owing to the anti-incumbency factor. But he was defeated by his own plan of coalescing all like-minded parties against the ruling party. Vaigo (Y. Gopalaswamy Naidu) used this plan, learned from Karunanidhi, to take away like-minded parties out of the reach of the DMK, which resulted in their own and Karunanidhi's defeat.

Observers say Vaigo had avenged his unceremonious expulsion from the DMK by Karunanidhi by using his own ploy against the former Chief Minister.

Karunanidhi was careful in every election not to split the vote of his like-minded parties. But this time, Vaigo attracted these parties under one umbrella of the DMDK, leaving the DMK alone in the company of piggyback rider Congress.

The observers say that if only Karunanidhi had the benefit of one more party of the DMDK with him, it would have been a different story altogether.

But then the observers are carried away by the exit polls, Madras floods and so on. They may have ovderlooked the age factor of Karunanidhi, his three wives and their children vying for leadership, the Alagiri factor and the Stalin factor, and the massive 2G corruption of Raja at the Centre. All these factors together may have cost Karunanidhi dear.

Chief Minister Jayalalithaa, on the other hand, is fairly younger, giving freebies and is running Amma canteens giving cheap but sumptuous food to the people. What more could the people of Tamil Nadu want?
