Elder Hanumantha Rao goes in glory

Fri, May 13, 2016, 12:44 PM
The outgoing Elder, V. Hanumantha Rao, went out in glory from the Rajya Sabha on Friday.

First he made a small blemish as to his leader, whether it was former prime Minister Indira Gandhi or the current leader Sonia Gandhi. In his written speech, he referred to his leader to whom he was grateful and thankful as the `Late Sonia gandhi,' and immediately corrected himself as `Indira Gandhi.'

When he repeatedly referred to Sonia Gandhi and went on reading, Dr Subramaniam Swamy objected to it, which is unprecedented at least in today's proceedings marked by sentiment and members' comraderie.

Regardless Hanumantha Rao continued his reading despite the Chair cautioning him about the 3-minute rule for the outgoing members. The Chairman had to ask him not to read out a speech, but VH continued to do so.

The Chairman again cautioned him, saying `3 minutes please.' `Please finish. Nothing will go on record.'

VH continued reading on the Other Backward Classes forum.

Chairman said `It's over' and called the next member VP Singh.

Despite the cutting of the mike, VH briefly read out in his loud voice. Soon not much could be heard. But VH had the satisfaction of thanking all his leaders.
