Prashant Kishor suggests Brahmin-Muslim-OBC formula for Cong in UP

Tue, May 03, 2016, 04:32 PM
Master strategist Prashant Kishor is a realist. He believes in local solutions for his strategy.

So when Prashant Kishor suggests to the Congress to stick to the Brahmins in Uttar Pradesh, his advice is based on the harsh reality that the community comprises 13% of the population of the State. With a solid vote of about 13%, the Congress is well advised to project a Brahmin as its chief ministerial candidate in the State.

In fact, the hobnobbing of Brahmins is nothing new either. Bahujan Samaj Party and Mayawati tried the experiment with successful results already.

When the master strategist suggests either Priyanka Gandhi or Rahul Gandhi as the chief ministerial candidate for the Congress in UP, it is against the background of Brahmin support. It would remind the people of the old Brahmin-Muslim-OBC combination that had delivered the results for the Congress in the past. He wants the Congress to have faith in its own formula.

Prashant Kishor's calculation is that with this combination, the Congress could hope to win 27-28% of the vote in UP, which will return it to power, and at the Centre thereafter.

Only two Congress candidates had won the parliamentary poll from UP. The party has just 30 MLAs in the 420-member House.
