Tue, May 03, 2016, 11:32 AM
Bangalore, once called the city of gardens and as city of lakes, is on the verge of becoming unlivable in 5 years' time, a study by Prof TV Ramachandra, of the prestigious Indian Institute of Science has warned.

Bangalore has been over urbanized to the extent of 525% in the last 40 years, the study said. The vegetation cover of the city has been reduced by 78% during the same period. The city also lost 79% of water bodies in last 40 years.

Prof Ramachandra said the city was witnessing `mad, senseless growth' pushing it to the the point of a disaster.

He warned that Bangalore, which was once the most sought after city in India, would be unlivable and dead city within the next 5 years, unless corrective measures were immediately taken.
