India finds another Bofors in Italian chopper deal

Thu, Apr 28, 2016, 05:18 PM
`All I want to ask her (Congress president Sonia Gandhi) is that while those who gave bribe are in jail in Italy, then where are those who received the kickbacks (in India)?' BJP president Amit Shah posed a simple question to Congress president in order to fix her in the AugustaWestland VVIP chopper deal on Thursday.

As the chopper paybacks deal picks up intensity, Amit Shah said those who were in power at that time should bring out the truth, putting the burden on the Congress-led UPA government. The deal was also cancelled due to the allegations of kickbacks during the Congress regime.

The BJP has been targeting the Congress since Tuesday evening when reports that an Italian court convicted AugustaWestland chief, Giuseppe Orsi, emerged. He reportedly told the court that his firm had paid kickbacks to top Congress leaders to bag the Rs 3600-crore chopper deal.

Believing offence is the best form of defence, the Congress attacked the BJP charging it had kept silent for 2 years, doing nothing about the kickbacks.

`Why did the Modi government allow the blacklisted company to take part in Make in India,' leader of the opposition in the Rajya Sabha Ghumlam Nabi Azad innocently asked.

Sonia Gandhi posed: `Where are the proofs? They are lying. They are part of a strategy of character assassination.'

The BJP leaders and others say the Italian court papers say Signora Sonia Gandhi's name figures at four places and Ahmed Patel figues specifically at one place and as AP at several places.
