Mon, Apr 25, 2016, 02:09 PM
President's rule in Uttarkhand found its echo in both the Houses of Parliament on Monday, when Congress House leader Mallikharjun Kharge staged a dharna in the Lok Sabha.

`It's a murder of democracy', Kharge charged referring to the President's rule in the Congress-ruled Uttarakhand. He said he gave a notice on the issue to the Speaker, Sumitra Mahajan.

The leaders of AAP and JD(U) joined the Congress in the well of the House, with Bhagwan Mann of AAP pleading with the Speaker to let Kharge have his say on the issue.

The issue turned into a controversy with the Uttarakhand High Court ruling against President's rule in the State, and within 24 hours the Supreme Court overturning the ruling.

Sumitra refused to allow Kharge to speak on the issue and the Congress and other members continued their protest in the House.

Congress president Sonia Gandhi was present in the House and was seen protesting.
