Pune Supergiants opts for Vizag as IPL matches are shifted

Sat, Apr 16, 2016, 11:05 AM
Rising Pune Supergiants have opted for Visakhapatnam as their homeground for the IPL matches after April 30. Thirteen IPL matches were shifted out of Maharashtra with the intervention of the Bombay High Court following the severest drought in Maharashtra.

The IPL teams that were scheduled to play in Maharashtra have been given the choice to choose from among Raipur, Jaipur and Viskhapatnam and Kanpur.

Pune opted for Visakhapatnam and Mumbai Indians were still undecided and asked for 2 days time to finalize their preference.

A meeting between IPL Chairman Rajiv Shukla and Rising Pune Supergiants and Mumbai Indians took place where it was decided to allot IPL's final and the first qualifier to Bangalore.

Earlier, the BCCI had tried to buy off the opposition by offering Rs 5 crore as the Chief Minister's Drought Relief fund to continue the matches as originally scheduled by Pune Supergiants and Mumbai Indians. The High Court is yet to act on the offer of the donation.

Shukla said the BCCI would plead with the court to allow the May 1 clash between the Mumbai Indians and the Pune Supergiants as scheduled in Pune, as the home franchise would be playing a game there on April 29.

Cricketers, particularly Rohit Sharma of Mumbai Indians, have fallen in love with vizag when they played matches there.
