Baby comes out alive despite quake destruction

Fri, Apr 15, 2016, 05:29 PM
Despite the destruction all round following an earthquake of 6.5 on the Richter scale and the death roll of nine on Thursday night, a baby girl was found alive without a scratch in Kamamoto in Mafiki town in South Japan.

As the rescue workers were looking to save injured people, the baby girl appeared. The baby was immediately rushed to hospital. But the rescue workers could not yet locate the baby's parents. In all nine people died in the quake and 800 people were injured.

Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe responded to the earthquake. He said the situation was being monitored and emergency measures were being taken.

In olden days, Japan used to have wooden houses so as to neutralise eathquake shocks. The cement concrete houses that are being built now are tested and made quake-resistant. Even so, complexes collapse owing to quake fury.
