Kollam tragedy calms down Shakti temple festivities

Tue, Apr 12, 2016, 04:09 PM
The Kollam tragedy in Kerala, where more than 100 people were killed in fireworks display, is slowly sinking in the minds of the people who are trying to avoid repeat incidents.

Like in the Puttangal Devi temple in Kollam, the Shakti temple in the Dharmarayaswamy temple in Old Bangalore was also planning a dazzling display of fireworks. They have since dropped the plans of fireworks in the Karaga celebrations in the temple this year. This means that it will be for the first time in 500 years that there won't be fireworks at the temple during the celebrations.

The temple had committed Rs 1 lakh under the head of fireworks display for this year. The idea has since been scrapped. The celebrations will begin on Full Moon Day and go on for 9 days.

Normally during communal fireworks display, people tend to show off and do daring acts, sometimes paying for their bluster.
