Kejriwal praises PM for water specials to Latur

Tue, Apr 12, 2016, 12:49 PM
Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal has hailed Prime Minister Narendra Modi for running water special trains to the severe drought-hit Marathwada districts such as Latur.

The Railways have already assured the people of Marathwada that they would be running water specials to the region. The water specials from the Sangli-Miraj area bordering Karnataka are plied for the 300-kilometre distance to reach Latur that borders Telangana.

In fact, the Godavari, at Kaleshwaram separates the two States of Telangana and Maharashtra. The Telangana government might also try to reach out to the neighbouring Latur people desperately in need of water, if there is flow in the river.

While praising the Prime Minister, Kejriwal said the Delhi government was willing to send water specials carrying 10 lakh litres of water to Latur spread over 2 months. He said arrangemetns were being made with the railways to carry the water to Latur. The talks with the departments concerned were in an advanced state of completion.

Sangli is situated in the basins of the Krishna and Warna rivers. Another small river Panchganga also flows into the Krishna near the district. The government and the railways should have thought of the water specials from Sangli-Miraj to Latur a long time ago.
