Tollywood star Balakrishna has chosen the historical subject of Gautamiputra Satkarni as his 100th film. In this connection, Balakrishna has asked the film fans to study history to know more about Gautamiputra Satakarni.

Guatamiputra Satakarni is a ruler of the Satavahana dynasty in the beginning of the Christian era and ruled from the present-day Kotilingala in Telangana. He fought major wars with the descendants of the Greeks (Yavanas) and Sakas (those of Scythian origin) and other foreigners and established his rule over major part of the present-day India.

Gautamiputra Satakarni's territory was across the Vindhyas including Malwa and Avanthi and covered the entire peninsular India. Hence Satakarni is called by the title Trisamudrapittoyavahana (whose territory covers three seas).

Satakarni is credited with grand war strategy by which he defeated his enemies on the battlefield. He defeated Emperor Sri Vikramaditya of Sakas and is credited with the starting a new dynasty of Salivahanas.

Satakarni regained all the lands of his forefathers that were lost to enemies with a winning strategy. That is why he is called Sakayavanapallavanidhushana (Who destroyed the Sakas, Yavanas and Pallavas).

Handsome and well-built, Satakarni is recorded in history as kind ruler who tried to solve his subjects problems. He is considered the greatest of the Satavahana rulers.
