First win against Aussies before bagging World Cup

Fri, Mar 25, 2016, 11:40 AM
Team India's chances of reaching the WT20 Semis depends on its own performance in the final league match with Australia as much as the key Australia-Pakistan match on Friday. Althought the team is at present on the No.2 spot, its net run rate is dismal 0.55. Comparatively, Australia and Pakistan's net run rate is much better.

Having beaten Pakistan and Bangladesh and losing to New Zealand badly, Team India has not only to perform better with Australia, but also hope Australia-Pakistan tie will be very close, like its last ball win over Bangladesh.

There's too much slip betwixt the cup and the slip for Team India at present. They will have to perform better. Perhaps they will have to remove the non-performers such as Suresh Raina and Shikhar Dhawan.

Generally, team selection in India is not generally based on performance indicators. It depends on several other considerations. The Captain has the final say, and he generally chooses his favourites, not necessarily great performers. They point to all kinds of technicalities to promote their favourites.

But then India has too many great players. So sticking to a few players on other considerations should be done away with. The final eleven will have to be fighting fit, not poor performers.

The final league match with Australia is crucial. All other considerations must be set aside, and the team that wins should be fielded.

Cricket is a game, wherein losing and winning are always there. If Team India loses, it is the Team that loses on the players ad and other considerations. Team India needs to win the crunch match, and go on winning to bag the World Cup.
