Rain in Kolkata dampens Team India spirits

Sat, Mar 19, 2016, 12:08 PM
The much-awaited India-Pakistan World Cup T20 tie is unlikely at Eden Garden in Kolkata on Saturday, with a heavy downpour in the morning and the cloud cover expected to increase in the afternoon.

All the online tickets for the match have been sold out. The cricket fans have already reached the city. Both the teams have arrived in Kolkata and had practice on Friday and Saturday.

The downpour came later in the morning. There's stated to be stagnant water on the ground. Some reports said the pitch has also been affected. If water has seeped in, there will be no match. The teams will share points.

An announcement about the match is expected later in the evening.

In any case, India's chances of reaching the WT20 final are slim. The way the Team India caved in to New Zealand attack in their opening match suggested the team was not fully prepared. With the second match being a further dampener, Team India has as good as ended its campaign.
