FIFA claims share of football spoils parked in US

Wed, Mar 16, 2016, 05:58 PM
FIFA, the world football body, is claiming tens of millions of dollars in bribes seized by US federal prosecutors for the development and promotion of the game.

FIFA says, `No matter how long it takes, we are determined to get it (the bribe money).'

FIFA, which admitted officially for the first time that bribes were taken in the World Cup hosting contests, filed a 22-page claim in New York's Attorney Office seeking a big share in the $190 million parked by its officials illegally in the US.

FIFA presidents Joao Havelange and Sepp Blatter have been forced out of office after 17 years in office following corruption charges.

The world football body president, Gianni Infantino, said on Wednesday that the convicted defendants had abused their positions of power in FIFA and world football organisations. They have done lasting damage to the football body.

Even in football premiere leagues in Europe, there are charges of fixing matches by those sitting in Singapore.
