Mosul dam about to burst, US warns Iraq again

Thu, Mar 10, 2016, 03:07 PM
The US has once again warned Iraq that the Mosul dam on the Tigris is about to burst. This was conveyed to the Iraqi Ambassador in Tehran, Mohammad Allakim, by the US Ambassador Samantha Power. She has been US Ambassador to the United Nations.

The US warns that should the Mosul dam burst, it would take a toll of 1.5 million lives and not only Mosul but also Baghdad, 35 km away, would be flooded.

Samantha urged the Iraqi Ambassador to take immediate measures to prevent a loss of life. Construction engineers, Irrigation experts and others have also warned against the faults in the Mosul dam.

The tragedy is Mosul dam falls in the ISIS zone, and Iraq can't have a say in the matter.

The Iraqis, as repositories of the Babylon and Mesopotamian civilizations, are great builders themselves.

Is the US just driven by humanitarian consdierations as regards Mosul? Does the US have some agenda up its sleeve to re-enter Iraq in the name of Mosul? Questions remain.
