UN panel wants Assange released, compensated

Fri, Feb 05, 2016, 04:31 PM
Julian Assange, world-renowned whistle blower and Wikileaks founder, should be allowed to go free and compensated, the UN panel that went into the issue ruled on Friday.

Swedish proesecutors said it would have `no formal impact' on their inquiry. Britain also did not give him any assurance once he comes out of the Ecudorean embassy in London where he has been hiding all along.

Assange faces criminal assault charge on a woman with whom he was sleeping in Sweden.

The British and Swedish response shows that they might even defy the UN ruling if it was against their interests.

While another whistle blower Edward Snowden was being considered for the Nobel Peace prize for this year, Julian Assange would certainly not be nominated because of the tough stance taken by Stockholm.
