Cloud Computing crowding out Indian IT firms, Kurien warns

Thu, Jan 21, 2016, 01:05 PM
The outgoing CEO of WIPRO, T.K. Kurien, has sounded a parting warnign to IT companies. If you don't change according to customers' needs and demands, you may have to close shop.

Giving the example of IBM, which was reluctant to change and got sidelined, Kurien said: "A lot of changes are happening in technology. A lot of changes are happening in customer itself and the way we deliver services are going to change. It can happen to any one of us."

He said 3 years ago, cloud was a good thing to have, now it was mainstream. Additional development and maintenance, the basis of Indain IT firms, was also getting impacted by cloud computing.

The basis of the IT firms would last as long as there were traditional applications, but the moment cloud-based applications were demanded, the firms might lose business, he added.

Kurien further said if the IT firms continued in the same way, the game was up. But the IT giants were smart, they would change. They will have to change.
