Indian shop clerk shot at in Grand Rapids

Wed, Dec 16, 2015, 11:09 AM
An armed robber entered an Indian-owned department store at Grand Rapids in Michigan in the US and shot at the counter clerk, aged 34, seriously injuring him.

The masked gangster broke in to the shop accusing the clerk that he was an IS agent and demanded cash. He put the barrel of the gun in the clerk's mouth. As the gangster fired, the clerk turned away, and the bullet pierced his chin. The gangster collected whatever money he could lay his hands on and disappered.

The shop at Grand Rapids is being run by an Indian businessman, Inderjit Singh. At the time of shooting, Inderjit's daughter, Gurlin Kaur, was present.

Stating that the clerk was out of danger, the Grand Rapids police sergeant, Terry Dixon, said that he (clerk) managed to ward off a fatal injury by a whisker.

Gurlin Kaur said after the incident that the Indian Sikhs in the US were prone to attacks as witnessed by her. "We are Americans and we would like to lead our lives as the Americans do," she added.
