Bengaluru, Oct 15: Flipkart, India's largest e-commerce company, has claimed that it has sold 5 lakh mobile phones within a duration of 10 hours as a part of its Big Billion Days sale.

This is a new record for the highest number of mobile phones sold in India in a short time either online or offline.

The company's Big Billion Days festive sale started on October 13 and it will end on October 17. It offers over 30 million products across 70 categories.

According to reports, the Flipkart got more traffic than social networking website Facebook in India during the special sale.

Flipkart is facing tough competition from Amazon and Snapdeal. Highest traffic for the company emanated from metros like Bengaluru, Delhi and Mumbai and from Visakhapatnam, Nagpur, Coimbatore, Jaipur and Indore among tier II cities.

4G mobile phones are in great demand and 75 per cent of the five lakh phones sold in the special sale are 4G smartphones.
